Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions San Carlos dog and cat owners ask us most, covering first visits, appointments, our services, payment, preventive care, and what to do outside our hours. If your question is not answered here, call us on (650) 750-0777 and our team will help.
First Visit and New Clients
What should I bring to my first appointment at Revive Veterinary Care?
Bring any health records and vaccination history you have, along with the name of whatever flea, tick, or parasite prevention your pet is currently on. If your pet takes anything daily, including joint supplements or veterinary products from another clinic, bring the packaging so we can record it accurately. Completing your registration before you arrive means more of the appointment is spent on your pet. If you are unsure what to bring, call us on (650) 750-0777.
Do you see dogs and cats at Revive Veterinary Care in San Carlos?
We see dogs and cats only. Focusing on two species lets our team build deeper familiarity with both, which is part of why our lead veterinarian holds board certification in canine and feline practice. If you have another kind of animal, call us on (650) 750-0777 and we will point you toward a practice that can help.
Where is Revive Veterinary Care located and is there parking available?
We are at 718 El Camino Real in San Carlos, California, 94070, a short drive from both Highway 101 and Interstate 280 and close to the White Oaks neighborhood. There is parking on site, so you are not circling the block with an unwell pet in the car. The San Carlos Caltrain station is nearby if you are travelling without one.
Appointments and Hours
How do I book an appointment at Revive Veterinary Care?
Call us on (650) 750-0777 and our team will find you a time. You can also send an appointment request through our website, and a member of the team will call you back to confirm the day and time. A request is not a confirmed booking until you hear from us, so please do not travel until it is confirmed.
What are your hours?
We are open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and we are closed on Sunday. The late close means you can bring your pet in after work or after school without taking a day off. If your pet needs attention outside those hours, see the after hours section below.
Do you accept same-day or urgent care appointments?
Yes. We hold same-day capacity for urgent cases every day the clinic is open. Call ahead on (650) 750-0777 where you can, because a phone call lets our team prepare before you arrive and tell you what to watch for on the way in. Urgent cases are triaged by clinical need rather than arrival order, so the most unwell patient is seen first.
Our Services
What veterinary services does Revive Veterinary Care offer?
Our three priority services are dental care, including cleanings and digital dental radiographs, same-day urgent care, and long-term medical care for ongoing conditions. We also offer preventive care, surgery, diagnostics, nutrition counseling, end-of-life care, and pet travel documentation. Every service is delivered from our practice on El Camino Real.
Can you help if my pet is having an urgent health issue?
Yes, during clinic hours. We see dogs and cats the same day for sudden illness, injuries, wounds, limping, vomiting, and urinary problems. Our laboratory, digital radiography, and ultrasound are all on site, so we can move from assessment to a plan quickly rather than sending you elsewhere for basic answers. Call us on (650) 750-0777.
Does Revive Veterinary Care offer dental care for dogs and cats?
Yes, and it is one of the services we are best set up for. A dental visit includes scaling and polishing above and below the gumline, probing and charting each tooth, full-mouth digital radiographs, and extractions where a tooth cannot be saved. Roughly half of dental disease sits below the gumline where a visual examination cannot reach, which is why we take radiographs as standard rather than as an extra.
Does Revive Veterinary Care have an online store for pet products?
Yes. Our online store lets you order veterinary products and have them delivered to your door, with the order reviewed by our team first. You can reach it from our website or by calling us on (650) 750-0777 if you would rather we set the first order up with you.
What accreditations or credentials does Revive Veterinary Care hold?
Dr. Mukul Padalkar, who owns the practice, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice. Board certification through the ABVP requires several years of documented case work beyond the veterinary degree, submitted case reports, and a set of examinations. Every veterinarian here is licensed by the California Veterinary Medical Board.
Payment and Insurance
What payment methods does Revive Veterinary Care accept?
We accept cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Payment is due at the time of service. If you have questions about paying for a particular course of care, raise it early and we will work through the options with you.
Does Revive Veterinary Care work with pet insurance?
Yes. We provide a fully itemized invoice after every visit that you can submit to any pet insurance provider for reimbursement. We do not currently offer direct billing to insurers, so payment is due at the time of service and your provider reimburses you afterward. If you are choosing a policy, buying before a condition appears matters, because insurers exclude anything pre-existing.
Do you offer payment plans or financing?
Yes. We work with a third-party financing provider that lets you spread the cost of care over time, subject to their approval. It is worth setting up before you need it rather than during an urgent visit. Call us on (650) 750-0777 and we will explain how it works.
Do you provide an estimate before starting care?
Yes, always. You will receive a written estimate before any procedure or course of care begins, and nothing proceeds until you have agreed to it. If there is more than one reasonable path, we will price them separately so you can compare rather than guess. Ask us anything about a line on the estimate. For current costs, call us on (650) 750-0777.
Preventive Care
How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
Most healthy adult dogs and cats do well with one wellness exam a year. Puppies and kittens need a series of visits in their first few months, and pets over about seven years old benefit from being seen every six months, because a lot can change in a year at that stage. Dogs and cats age faster than we do, so an annual exam is a meaningful interval rather than a formality.
What vaccines does my pet need in San Carlos?
Core vaccines are recommended for nearly every dog and cat, and cover the diseases that are widespread or dangerous to people. Lifestyle vaccines depend on what your pet actually does, including boarding, daycare, hiking local trails, and time spent outdoors. San Mateo County also requires rabies vaccination by three months of age. Our team will assess your pet’s routine at the first appointment and recommend only what fits it.
How do I protect my pet from parasites in San Carlos?
Year-round prevention is what we recommend here, for indoor and outdoor pets alike. Fleas do not die off over a mild Peninsula winter, ticks are active in the grassy and wooded areas for much of the year, and dogs who drink from creeks and puddles on local trails pick up giardia. Heartworm is present in California and is spread by mosquitoes. Call us on (650) 750-0777 and we will build a prevention plan around your individual pet.
After Hours and Emergencies
What should I do if my pet has an emergency outside your hours?
Go straight to your nearest 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital and call them on the way so they can prepare. Do not wait for us to open, because the conditions that cannot wait genuinely cannot wait. We are open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and closed on Sunday. Ask us at your next visit and we will give you a recommendation to keep on the fridge before you need it.
What counts as a veterinary emergency?
Call immediately, or go to an emergency hospital if we are closed, for difficulty breathing, collapse, a seizure, suspected poisoning, an inability to pass urine, severe bleeding, major trauma such as a car accident, or pale gums. Straining in the litter box without producing urine is an emergency in male cats and becomes life threatening within hours. If you are unsure whether something qualifies, call us on (650) 750-0777 during clinic hours and describe it rather than waiting to find out.
